Beginnings in 1780
On the slopes of Mutton Hill, in one of Westmoreland's earliest settlements, the farm was first laid out in 1780. The original homestead — a farmhouse, summer kitchen, and barns — rose from the land in that era, humble and resilient, each structure serving its part in daily life on the farm.
A grand center chimney once anchored the home's heart, drawing warmth into its core.
Then, in 1852, a "renewal" reshaped its heart: the original chimney was removed and replaced with two newer ones, and a hand pump plus cast-iron sink were added to bring water from a dug well behind the house.
Though the original farmhouse has since been lost to time, its legacy lives on in the barn that stood across the road — a structure that would one day be transformed into the home that carries the farm’s story forward.
